  1. My granddad used a straight razor as long as he was able to shave himself at all.

  2. My grandfather gave me his and told me his father told him to always live his life in such a way that he could always stand in front of the mirror and shave without feeling like cutting his throat. Then he told me it was now on me to do the same.
Made it real easy to say NO when somebody tried to get me to take shortcuts w8ith my job.

  3. I have about 50 straight razors. My oldest is made in the mid 1830's. My youngest is a USMC marked Krause. I have an Ivory scaled Case "Liberty Special" and a civil war vintage "eye" brand. Several British blades and MANY German blades. My favorite is a Carl Scharff. An obscure German craftsman and survivor of WW1. It may be the best steel I have ever owned. Strangely. I haven't encountered a single antique French blade in over 20 years collecting. --Ray
