North Korean soldier successfully escapes across the heavily defended DMZ

But he caught a couple of bullets on the way, fired at him by his "comrades."

The New York Times reported that the North Korean soldier defected through Panmunjom, a village that straddles the border between the two Koreas. Alerted by gunshots, South Korean guards found the North Korean soldier about 55 yards south of the border line that bisects Panmunjom. He was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds to an elbow and shoulder, South Korean officials said.

Well, brother, welcome to a whole new world of freedom.  I hope he doesn't have family north of the border, as Rocket Man has a history of making the lives of the families of defectors miserable.  Or more miserable than they otherwise are.

  1. Yes, it'll be like being re-born for that wounded Nork soldier. The whole lot of them should have defected - the whole division. But as you say, if you have family, Rocket Man will torture and murder them. Hostages make cowards of us all.
